Job Title:
Safety Manager

Function, Focus & Reporting:

Position will be responsible for area level safety leadership across an assigned area.  Will report to the VP Safety or other assigned department senior manager.

Manage other safety professionals or admin as assigned.

Perform job site audits based on event trending, lagging/leading indicators and safety needs identified with VP Safety or other department senior manager.

Coordinate injury management through Workman’s Compensation Manager and assist in establishing area injury management resources and relationship building.

Promote a positive safety culture.

Participate in parent company safety audits and coordinate corrective actions feedback to the VP Safety and operations management.

Participate in post incident leadership calls.  Coordinate follow-up actions and reporting.

Review weekly Ops Reports for safety planning purposes.

Assist with training instruction and scheduling.

Coordinate and assist with root cause identification and investigations.

Complete a monthly expense report for company Purchasing Card.  Shall spend within set departmental guidelines.  Submit Purchase Card activity monthly to VP Safety.

Coordinate, manage and respond to OSHA or other regulatory agency level audits as directed by the VP Safety or other department senior manager. 

Coordinate support efforts with VP Safety.

Make sure investigations, corrective actions and safety planning is purposeful, complete and supported.

Shall ensure timely notifications of incidents to VP Safety.

All other assigned responsibilities by VP Safety or other assigned department senior manager. 

Ensure environmental requirements related to handling, disposal, reporting and documentation of hazardous and non-hazardous waste are properly adhered to

Implement overall strategy for continuous improvement of all safety initiatives.

Provide technical expertise, strategic leadership and support for all regulatory safety issues

Provide strategic direction on planning, development, administration, and management of organizational safety policies, programs, systems and training.


Will maintain current certification in OSHA 500, CPR, basic first aid and other required topics.

Must be able to travel nationwide or region as needed.  Overnight travel as needed to support position and duties.

Must maintain professional interaction, appearances and communication within all levels of organization.

Frequent travel required possibly exceeding 50%

Preferred Education/Certifications:

Safety Related Bachelor’s or Associate Degree

Certified Safety Professional or equivalent certifications.

Required/Preferred Professional Experience: 

7+ years of Safety experience.

Construction, oil & gas industry experience preferred

Experience working in a highly decentralized organization.

Required Competencies:

Demonstrated knowledge of safety rules and regulations at all levels of government, including federal, state and local.

Demonstrated ability to conduct safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with occupational and environmental health and safety requirements.

Ability to develop, update and manage workplace safety programs, procedures and policies.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Strong ability to influence.

Experience with auditing processes and use of the information to affect change.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks and initiatives simultaneously.

Possess the qualities of self-motivation and results-orientation.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration.


The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bending or standing on a stool as necessary. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 50 pounds.
