Scholarship Recipient

I was recently notified that I am to receive the Iowa Nurses Foundation Scholarship Award in the amount of $750 plus an additional $750 for a Leadership Award from the American Nurses Foundation. This total contribution of $1500 will allow me to further my education and continue to serve my patients, students, and fellow Iowa nurses. I am so thankful to be a recipient of this prestigious award.

My love of learning continues to draw me back to higher education.  My personal motto has been “learn something new every day”.  I am attending Walden University and doing my practicum hours at Genesis Health System in the Quad Cities.  My doctoral program has increased my knowledge and passion for helping others learn.  I learn in my interactions with classmates, in each clinical experience, and while working on my practicum project.  I have also found immense value in being more active among peers and within my state.

My nursing career has been a mix of many patient care areas, education areas, and of course a wide variety of clients.  Nurses are fortunate that a career in nursing can mean working in different health care venues, with a variety of clients, and still practice in our field.  My recommendation to all nurses is to practice being lifelong learners. Never stop learning whether it is going from one degree to the next, or from one specialty to another. We owe it to our patients and to ourselves to be enthusiastic and well educated about our service.

Thank you to the Iowa Nurses Foundation and the American Nurses Association for providing scholarships. I will continue to include incorporating education in all that I do.
