NUCA of Nebraska Helps Launch First Annual Nebraska Construction Career Day

NUCA of Nebraska worked with the Construction Industry Council and six community colleges in our state to offer career days. It was an opportunity to connect with high school students, educate them about the work that they do, and build relationships and connections with future employees while providing them with hands-on experiences. Both high school students and their parents were invited to attend.

NUCA of Nebraska members loaned equipment to use for the event and volunteered their time to help students learn more about the construction industry. There were 21 station different stations ranging from heavy equipment to steam fitting to  truck driving. Students were placed into groups of 5-7, based on their interests. Volunteers lead each group around to different stations for hands-on activities and discussed what they do and why they chose a career in utility construction. NUCA of Nebraska volunteers invited students to follow up with them later to schedule job shadowing or try out other equipment at their company’s location.

After the success of the first year, Nebraska Construction Career Days will become an annual event. NUCA of Nebraska aims to expand the pool of qualified laborers in the construction industry.
