It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of former Fire Chief Dave “Gunny” Hare Sr. Chief Hare died on December 15, 2016, at TRIOS Hospital in Kennewick, due to complications that occurred during surgery.

Service to his community was what Gunny was all about. He joined the Marines in 1954 at the age 16 and retired in 1974, after serving two combat tours in Vietnam.  Then moved to Kellogg, Idaho where he taught ROTC. In Idaho, he found his new calling to service at the local fire department and later moved to Burbank, Washington to become the Fire Chief of Walla Walla County Fire District #5.

Chief Hare was Fire Chief of Walla Walla County Fire District #5 from 1982-1991. Then went on to work for Hanford Fire Department as a Battalion Chief from 1991 until his retirement in October 2001. After retirement he traveled the world advocating safety and security.

A celebration of Gunny’s life and a tribute to all who serve will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017, beginning at 1:00 pm at the Kennewick First United Methodist Church (421 W. Kennewick Avenue) and is open to the public.
