San Francisco firefighters rally against chemicals used in uniforms

VIDEO: San Francisco could be the first city in the nation to ban a common type of firefighter uniform found to emit cancer-causing chemicals. Firefighters on Tuesday joined city leaders on the steps of city hall to voice their support for new legislation introduced in the afternoon requiring San Francisco provide new uniforms to its roughly 800 firefighters over the next two years.

‘Black box’ data recorder recovered from ship that struck Francis Scott Key Bridge in Maryland as recovery efforts continue

The US Coast Guard has suspended search and rescue efforts for six people who were on the Francis Scott Key Bridge when it collapsed early Tuesday following a major cargo boat collision. Recovery efforts are now underway for the missing people, who are presumed dead. A team from with the National Transportation Safety Board went aboard the ship late Tuesday night to gather evidence for their investigation, agency Chair Jennifer Homendy told CNN on Wednesday.

VIDEO: Ship collides with Francis Scott Key Bridge in Maryland, causing collapse

The Francis Scott Key Bridge has collapsed into the water after a large ship collided with it. Baltimore City police say they were notified of a partial bridge collapse with workers possibly in the water, at 1:35 Tuesday morning. MDTA says all lanes are closed in both directions. Traffic is being detoured.

Never Forget: 10 years since deadly Back Bay fire took the lives of 2 Boston firefighters

VIDEO: Tuesday marks 10 years since a deadly Back Bay fire claimed the lives of two Boston firefighters. Lt. Edward Walsh and firefighter Michael Kennedy were killed while fighting a wind-fueled, nine-alarm fire at 298 Beacon St. on March 26, 2014. The two men went inside after they were told someone might be trapped in the basement, then became trapped themselves.

Bill Written in Response to Ship Fire that Claimed Lives of Two New Jersey Firefighters Advances

Federal legislation calling for studies on vessel fires within three nautical miles of the shoreline to reduce vessel and waterfront facility risk to local communities was passed by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee recently. The bill was introduced by Congressman Rob Menendez (NJ-08) in response to the tragic vessel fire that occurred in Newark in July 2023, which claimed the lives of two Newark firefighters, Augusto “Augie” Acabou and Wayne “Bear” Brooks Jr.
