9-year-old boy on bike gets caught under bus in Vancouver and survives

PHOTOS: A 9-year-old boy on a bike survived after getting pinned under the rear axle of a school bus Tuesday morning in Vancouver, police said. The boy was taken to a Portland hospital with non-life-threatening leg injuries, said Vancouver police spokesperson Kim Kapp. The Evergreen School District bus driver, whom police did not publicly identify, was not cited in the crash, police said.

Garage fire extinguished in Spokane Valley, no injuries reported

A garage attached to a duplex at 2022 S Fawn Drive caught fire late at night on Monday and was extinguished with no injuries reported, according to the Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD). The SVFD, along with the Spokane County Fire District 8, responded to the fire after receiving reports from multiple individuals, none of whom knew if the fire had spread to either of the duplex units.

VIDEO: Ship collides with Francis Scott Key Bridge in Maryland, causing collapse

The Francis Scott Key Bridge has collapsed into the water after a large ship collided with it. Baltimore City police say they were notified of a partial bridge collapse with workers possibly in the water, at 1:35 Tuesday morning. MDTA says all lanes are closed in both directions. Traffic is being detoured.

VIDEO: Tuesday marks 10 years since a deadly Back Bay fire claimed the lives of two Boston firefighters. Lt. Edward Walsh and firefighter Michael Kennedy were killed while fighting a wind-fueled, nine-alarm fire at 298 Beacon St. on March 26, 2014. The two men went inside after they were told someone might be trapped in the basement, then became trapped themselves.

Bill Written in Response to Ship Fire that Claimed Lives of Two New Jersey Firefighters Advances

Federal legislation calling for studies on vessel fires within three nautical miles of the shoreline to reduce vessel and waterfront facility risk to local communities was passed by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee recently. The bill was introduced by Congressman Rob Menendez (NJ-08) in response to the tragic vessel fire that occurred in Newark in July 2023, which claimed the lives of two Newark firefighters, Augusto “Augie” Acabou and Wayne “Bear” Brooks Jr.
