The new pumper truck, Engine #7, took over a year to be custom built to meet the special specifications of New Canaan, and is expected to come in as budgeted at $615,000 after all the finishing touches are done, said Fire Chief Jack Hennessey.
Over the span of that year, members of a six-man truck committee took turns traveling to Spartan Motors in Michigan to watch the progress of the chassis and wheels and to Marion Body Works in Wisconsin to see the construction of the cab, body and pump.
