Connecticut fire department marks trails to help lost, injured hikers

As a way to help with emergencies on town trails, the Fire Department has started on a trail-marking project. Firefighter Christopher Fusco has been spearheading the project for over four years and first implemented it at Crescent Lake with the help of Firefighter Ryan Pulver. The markers are placed about every hundred feet.

Actor Steve Buscemi, former New York firefighter, to host 9/11 tribute at National Memorial Day Concert

The annual National Memorial Day Concert airs this Sunday at 8 p.m. on PBS. It will include a 20th anniversary remembrance of 9/11 presented by Steve Buscemi. “I went to D.C. almost 20 years ago the year after 9/11; I was asked to do the 9/11 tribute then because they knew I’m a former firefighter with Engine 55 in Manhattan,” Buscemi said.

Fire on One of Hottest Days So Far Displaces Dozens in New York, Injures 13 Firefighters

VIDEO: A fire ripped through row houses in Yonkers on one of the hottest days of the year so far, displacing nearly 100 people and injuring more than a dozen firefighters as well as one resident. The blaze appeared to have started Sunday afternoon in the backyard of one home on Maple Street but it quickly spread to four nearby houses, according to fire officials and witnesses.

'Huge milestone': Woman becomes first deputy fire chief in Florida county

A 26-year veteran of Polk County Fire Rescue became the first woman to be promoted to the rank of deputy chief, the county announced this week. Jennifer Huff will serve in the planning division, according to a release. “Deputy Chief Huff’s promotion is a huge milestone for Polk County Fire Rescue,” Fire Chief Robert Weech said in a statement.
