One person was injured in the first of four fires that burned in Yakima from Tuesday night to Wednesday afternoon.
Firefighters were called to the 200 block of Oak Street at 11:28 p.m. Tuesday for a fire that started in a tree and spread to a six-plex, according to a fire department news release. While only the building’s siding and a vehicle parked in the area were damaged, a man with a second-degree burn on his arm was treated at the scene, the release said.

Crews from the Spokane County Fire District 4 have knocked down a fire at an abandoned house in Deer Park that started Wednesday morning.
Firefighters say the abandoned house is at N. Colville Rd. and Crawford St., with flames being reported around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.
One firefighters reportedly sustained minor injuries, cutting his hand on some broken glass.

A Horizon Air pilot volunteered to take an unpaid leave of absence so he could help Orting Fire and Rescue, which needed an experienced paramedic to help respond during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
“Both jobs really have an adrenaline rush behind them,” said Hunter Chumbley, who has flown for Horizon since 2017.

Fire personnel responded to a 2-alarm brush fire about a mile up Hay Canyon Road outside of Cashmere around noon Tuesday.
CCWIC Lead Operations Dispatcher Josh Gibbs explained that, at last check, the size of the fire was about 10 acres but the nature of the fire made it hard to tell.
Gibbs said, “The report that we got from Rivercom was the report of a brush fire near a shooting range.

For once, the coronavirus pandemic actually may have saved lives.
Nobody was home when fire swept through and destroyed four trailers at the Black Mountain Ranch campground along the Mount Baker Highway Monday afternoon, May 4.
“It was a pretty good fire, and thankfully nobody was there,” Whatcom County Fire District 14 Chief Jerry Debruin told The Bellingham Herald Tuesday.
