December 2023 • Florida Pool Prosm 9 By Dallas Thiesen, FSPA Sr. Director of Government Affairs / Dallas@FloridaPoolPro.com Florida pool industry generates $12.2 Billion in economic activity Recently, the Florida Swimming Pool Association completed an economic impact study to assess the economic productivity the Florida swimming pool and spa industry contributes to Florida’s economy. The study showed that the Florida swimming pool and spa industry generates $12.2 Billion of economic activity per year for the state, growing 78%since 2017 ($6.9 Billion) and 126%since 2014 ($5.4 Billion). At $12.2 Billion per year, the industry accounts for 1.22% of the overall State of Florida GDP of $1 Trillion. The study also shows the Florida swimming pool and spa industry employs more than 100,000 people in the state of Florida, a 63% increase since 2014. Of those employed in the Florida pool industry, approximately 58,000 are working in new construction, renovation and repair while 49,000 are employed in the retail and cleaning and maintenance sector of the industry. The new construction and renovation/repair sector of the Florida industry generates approximately $4.1 Billion per year in economic activity, with $2.6 Billion being accounted for by newpool swimming pool and spa construction to the tune of 34,000 new swimming pools built every year.
