Three Students Awarded CSE FCU "Smart Future" Scholarship

CSE Federal Credit Union recognized three recent high school graduates with scholarship awards during the credit union’s virtual 77th Annual Meeting on May 6, 2021. Alyssa Vining, Todd Cormier Jr. (TJ), and Cade O’Neal each received $1,000 toward their continued education at a college or vocational school program of their choice.  

Alyssa, the daughter of John Ryan and Karrie Vining, is a graduate of Sulphur High School. During her four years, Alyssa participated in the Sulphur High Beta Club holding office as President and State Vice President her Senior year. She belonged to the Youth Advisory Council of Lake Charles and served as Vice Chair of Community Services, as well as the National Honor Society, Student Council and AP Scholar with Honors program. Alyssa was on the Sulphur High School Swim team, where she was named Captain and achieved Academic All-State. She was Student of the Year all four years of high school, was named Outstanding Sulphur High School Student and received the Marine Distinguished Athlete award. Alyssa plans to attend Baylor University in the fall and will pursue a double major in psychology and biology with intentions of going to medical school.  

TJ, the son of Todd and Kasey Cormier, graduated with honors from Iowa High School. During his four years, TJ participated in National Honor Society, Student Council, FBLA, Beta, 4H and Calcasieu Parish Jr. Leaders Club. He was active in sports such as Iowa High School track, golf, and football, where he was named co-captain of defensive and offensive teams and All-District Tight End. TJ will be attending McNeese State University where he will pursue a degree in civil engineering.

Cade, the son of Kevin and Christa O’Neal, graduated with honors from Sulphur High School. During his four years, Cade participated in Beta, Student Council and Honor Society. He participated in Sulphur High School football and soccer and was named captain of the soccer team his senior year. Cade was also named LHSSA All-District 1st Team Defense, Academic All-State and received the Marine Distinguished Athlete award. He volunteers within the community and has worked several service projects through his church. Cade plans to attend Louisiana State University in the fall, where he will pursue a degree in engineering.

CSE “Smart Future” Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal. Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship Management Services, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship and tuition reimbursement programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals.
