Contract piggybacking: An audit focus

“Piggybacking” refers to one local government making purchases from contracts awarded by another government or group of governments via an interlocal agreement or contract. Piggybacking is a convenient way to procure goods or services. However, the Washington Auditor's Office has seen an increasing number of local governments use this alternative method without completing the process properly. National purchasing cooperatives are becoming more widely used, and many of these are based in other states where the laws do not align with Washington law.

WFC Urges Members to Contact US House Members Regarding HR 3881

The Senate FIRE-SAFER re-authorization bill passed in early August but has yet to make any progress in the House. Due to the lack of action, Representative Bill Pascrell (D-NJ), Representative Dave Reichert (R-WA) and the other House Fire Services Caucus members introduced their own FIRE-SAFER re-authorization bill (H.R. 3881) on September 28. This bill is the House companion bill to S. 829.
 
We are urging Members of Congress to co-sponsoring H.R. 3881. 
 
Attached is a letter that our members can use to contact the Washington House delegation and ask for co-sponsorship of H.R. 3881 If you plan to contact Rep. Reichert please thank him for already co-sponsoring this bill.

WFC Seeks Bids for Group Retro Plan

The Washington Fire Chiefs ( WFC), a non-profit fire chiefs association is evaluating and possibly developing a workers’ compensation group retro plan through Washington State Labor and Industries (L & I). This bid request has been initiated to solicit responses from individuals or firms interested in participating in a contract to perform the services described in the attached documents.

L&I Premium Calculator

In an ongoing effort to assist fire agencies, Labor & Industries is continuing to support fire agencies through the premium calculator. This tool will assist Fire Agencies to better refine their budget estimates as it pertains to costs associated to Industrial Insurance. 

This tool also includes the projected experience rating for each of the Fire Agencies to reflect a more refined estimate based on each agency's relative performance.
