FDNY Deputy Chief to lose pay for 50 days as penalty for role in leaking scandal

The FDNY has censured one of its top-ranked chiefs with a 50-day pay loss — a penalty for his role in a long-running leaking scandal that set the department on edge. FDNY Deputy Chief Paul Mannix, a 27-year veteran on the force, agreed to accept the penalty, according to a department order released Thursday and obtained by the Daily News.

New Jersey EMT killed in ambulance crash

A Piscataway woman working with the Spotswood Emergency Services was killed in an ambulance crash Saturday morning, her mother and police said Saturday. Hinal Patel was killed in a multi-car wreck involving a Spotswood ambulance, her mother Darshana Patel said. Darshana Patel declined further comment.

Trucker killed, Texas firefighters injured in wreck

PHOTO: A truck driver was killed and three Irving firefighters were injured early Sunday morning in a serious accident on Highway 183. Irving police spokesman Officer Steve Burres said the sequence of events began around 3:15 a.m. when officers responded to the crash of a pickup truck between Belt Line and Story roads.

Oh Crap: 73 Acres Burned in Boise Foothills Fire

A 73-acre fire in the Boise foothills started around 1:30 p.m. on July 22 after a mountain biker stopped to poop in a ravine, then lit his toilet paper on fire to dispose of it. According to the Bureau of Land Management, the biker thought he was doing the responsible thing by getting rid of the toilet paper, but an ember from the toilet paper quickly lead to the fire growing out of control.

Maine EMT, 87, still driving ambulance, helping people

This Fourth of July, 87-year-old Edna Mitchell was tending the dessert table at the Liberty Fire Department’s annual chicken barbecue when the police scanner sputtered to life. A woman was having a medical problem and required assistance. Mitchell sprang into action, leaving her famous mincemeat cake behind as she headed over to the garage where the Liberty Ambulance vehicle is kept.
