King County Search and Rescue receives donation to replace operations tools

King County Search and Rescue says it received a charitable donation that will help it continue serving the community. Hand tool manufacturer Carona Tools gifted the search and rescue team with new cultivator tools used during searches for hikers and missing people across the county. A crucial portion of this operation is the tools that they use.

The team hopes that the new tools will help them replace older tools that might not be as effective or are broken. The rescue team is a nonprofit organization that works with different law enforcement agencies, particularly the King County Sheriff’s Office, to find missing people in the county. The team is made up of 600 volunteers trained to assist in search-and-rescue missions

Old ambulance now spreads Seahawks spirit on Whidbey Island

With the turn of a key, a 25-year-old ambulance comes back to life on Whidbey Island. It served as a medic rig on the island for decades until it came time to retire. But old Unit 12 — its actual unit number — wasn’t quite ready for the junkyard. It had unfinished business with Seahawks fans known as “the 12s.” Unit 12 is now known as the Fanbulance, spreading Seahawks pride wherever it goes for the past decade. Friday it brought Super Bowl hype to the kids at Coupeville Elementary who got to tour it.

“I think it’s awesome. I think it’s also awesome,” students said. Decked out with all sorts of Seahawks swag, even autographs from legendary players like Jim Zorn, Jemaine Kearse and Manu Tuiasosopo, the Fanbulance has become a Whidbey Island tradition. Ron Wallin originally refurbished the old ambulance and raffled it off as a fundraiser for the local Boys and Girls Club in 2014.
