Notification: Chief Otto Jensen

It is with a heavy heart that the Washington Fire Chiefs announces the passing of Chief Otto Jensen last night. Chief Jensen was an influential leader in the Washington Fire service and was instrumental in the success of the Washington Fire Chiefs. He served as our first Executive Director from 1986-1996

Memorial Information: Chief Doug McNall

The Everett Fire Department is saddened to report the passing of retired Fire Chief Doug McNall. Doug passed away on January 30, 2016.

Doug joined the Everett Fire Department in November 1962, was appointed Everett’s Fire chief in June 1980, and retired as Fire Chief following a successful career in January 1990. In what may be an unprecedented career in the fire service, Chief McNall was a prominent leader throughout his career and exemplified unselfish dedication regarding matters involving firefighters. During his meritorious service, Doug was honored to serve as President – Everett Firefighters Local 350; President – Everett Firefighters Association; President – Washington State Council of Firefighters; and President – Washington Fire Chiefs Association. Chief McNall was well known as an effective leader, planner, and gentleman who could achieve results and consensus on important issues. Doug is acknowledged as a credit to his profession...

Memorial Information: Chief Michael Stuart Greene

Michael Stuart Greene 
(April 27, 1954 - January 8, 2016) 

In his 61 years, Michael Stuart Greene proved that the sum of a life is so much greater than one. He leaves a legacy of communities aided by his work as a fire chief and visionary creator of emergency medical services systems, people aided by his work as a paramedic, his family, and a universe of lifelong friends. In the words of his son, he was “the unofficial mayor of wherever he lived.” 

His greatest joys were his wife Barbara, his sons Collin and Gavin, and his new daughter-in-law, Collin’s wife Caity, followed closely by his love for his life’s work in fire and emergency management, his passion for selling, buying and trading cars, and his devotion to root beer...

Passing of Retired Fire Chief Jon C. Bugher 1946-2016

It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we report the passing of Jon Carlson Bugher, Fire Chief (Retired). The District was officially notified of Chief Bugher’s passing on Wednesday, however at the request of his widow, Beth, we have withheld the news until today. 

Chief Bugher was originally hired by Clallam County Fire District 2 in September of 1994 as a part-time consultant for the Administration of the Fire District. In November of 1998 the Board of Fire Commissioners offered him a fulltime position as Fire Chief. He served in that capacity until his retirement on December 30, 2011. From January 2012 to June of 2012 Chief Bugher worked as a consultant to the District re-writing policy and administrative functions...

LODD: Captain Brent Allen Strong

West Thurston Regional Fire Authority Captain Brent Allen Strong (after a long courageous fight against duty related brain cancer) died on September 20th, 2015. Brent was 47 year old (born June 27th, 1968). Captain Strong started his career with Littlerock Fire Rescue in January 1997, after serving for many years as a volunteer with Littlerock (Thurston County Fire District 11), Lewis County Fire District 12, and Tumwater. Captain Strong also served with the City of Olympia and Tumwater as a temporary career firefighter.  Captain Strong was an inspiring leader and Training Officer, who loved to serve his community and mentor his students and colleagues.
