Texas Travel Ban on Louisiana | COVID-19 Update

LMTA Executive Director Discusses Texas Travel Restrictions

FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR:

Dear Members,

With Texas Governor Abbott today placing travel restrictions between Texas and Louisiana, I have been in contact with various Texas officials in an effort to understand any impact to our industry. First and foremost, if you have employees who commute from Texas to Louisiana (or vice versa) each day for work, they can continue to do so. The order specifically exempts those "people traveling in connection with commercial activity... [and] critical infrastructure functions." The trucking industry and the businesses who support it are exempt from this order, consistent with federal guidelines for essential employees. Certainly, the spirit of the order is to discourage travel into Texas from Louisiana. My counterpart in Texas worked his Governor's office and ATA to make sure our industry and the people who support us would not be hindered.

You can access the Governor's order by clicking here. The Governor's proclamation identifying states included in the ban can be found here.

Sincerely,
Chance McNeely
LMTA Executive Director
