Workweek: This position will require approximately one month of field training Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Once training has been completed this position will follow a rotating 8-hour shift with 6 days on-shift and 2 days off-shift.
Wage: Per ordinance. Grade H4, Union, Non-Exempt
Definition: Under direction, operates, adjusts, regulates and maintains water pumping station equipment used for the conveyance, transmission and distribution of raw and finished water. Operates and maintains disinfection and treatment equipment, meters, valves, gauges and SCADA controls. Turns valves, pulls levers and flips switches to operate and control pumps, motors and backup electric generators to transfer raw and treated water. Reads flow meters and gauges to regulate equipment according to water consumption demands as well as inspects equipment to detect malfunctions such as pipe leaks, pump and motor failures and treatment equipment failures. Records flow meter readings, pressure gauges, thermometers, continuous chlorine, pH and temperature analyzers. Uses computers to control certain equipment on site and remotely. Tests for chlorine content, pH and other parameters to determine potability of water. Performs daily inspections of the water facilities and keeps accurate records.
Must be available for emergencies and have a mobile phone through which he or she can be contacted.
Knowledge and Abilities:
• Ability to understand, remember and carry out written and oral directions and to learn quickly from written and oral explanation and from demonstration.
• Ability to learn to utilize various types of basic electronic and manual recording and computer systems used by the Water Utility.
• Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
• Self-motivated to work in response to emergencies on nights and weekends. Must be able to work for long periods in emergency situations.
Education and Experience:
• Must possess a valid NJ driver’s license.
• Must possess or obtain a NJ Class B Commercial Driver’s License within probationary period.
• Possession of a valid NJ Department of Environmental Protection issued water treatment (T1) operator license or the willingness and ability to obtain license within 18 months of employment. A water distribution (W1) operator license is strongly encouraged to obtain as well, but will not be required.

The Executive Director is responsible for the general overall supervision and direction of all functions of the Hamilton Township Municipal Utilities Authority and shall act as the HTMUA's Chief Executive and Administrative Officer, and implement all orders, resolutions and policies developed and adopted by the Board Members of the Authority as well as the planning, directing, and coordinating the maintenance and operations of the HTMUA’s systems and contract operations.
The HTMUA is a public utility that provides public water and sewer service for residents and businesses within a 25 square mile designated service area of Hamilton Township. The Executive Director must be available 24/7. Strong consideration will be given to residency within Hamilton Township, knowledge of Hamilton Township and the ability to respond to emergency situations.
The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of ten (10) years of utility management, strong leadership and interpersonal skills, and should demonstrate an understanding of municipal utility budgeting and purchasing.
