Eagle FCU Celebrates 80 Years

Published: Feb 8, 2022

80 Years of People Helping People In 1941, employees of the Department of Welfare had the idea of forming their own credit union and a memo was sent out on September 12, 1941 asking coworkers interested to attend a meeting. From that meeting, the Welfare Credit Union was born and was chartered on February 13, 1942. The credit union elected a board of directors and began operating out of a cigar box in the Commerce Building. Years later, the credit union name was changed to LA State Credit Union, then Eagle LA Federal as the field of membership changed. Today, the credit union has over $121M in assets and serves over 12,000 members with a large array of financial services. Eagle FCU is proud to serve members from a variety of employer groups and underserved areas in the State of Louisiana. They thank those early charter members who joined together embracing the fundamental credit union philosophy of “people helping people” and our members of today.
