On Tuesday, June 22, Pelican State Credit Union hosted a free Financial Wellness Workshop where attendees received tips on how to financially prepare for when disaster strikes.
The workshop was hosted at Sulphur Parks and Recreation's Carlyss Rec Room at 933 West Parish Road in Sulphur, Louisiana. Pelican Credit Counselor Nanette Diaz began her "How to Manage Your Money During a Disaster" presentation at 6:00 pm.
Guests learned smart money management tips about the unexpected expenses that come with disasters, as well as how to prepare before a disaster such as creating an emergency fund, reviewing insurance policies, and more.
A representative from the United Way of Southwest Louisiana was also there to share information about how the 211 Helpline can connect people to resources that are available to them during a disaster.
All guests enjoyed a free jambalaya dinner courtesy of the credit union, as well as cookies and drinks. To conclude the workshop, one lucky attendee was drawn at random and won a prize pack which included disaster kit essentials such as a first aid kit, flashlights and batteries, and a $50 gift card!
