La Cap Sponsors Istrouma Area Boy Scouts’ Cooking for Character

Published: Dec 2, 2021

La Capitol was a sponsor of the 2021 Cooking for Character, held Oct. 26 by the Istrouma Area Council of Boy Scouts of America. The annual event raises funds to support the Istrouma Area Boy Scouts’ partnership with the East Baton Rouge Housing Authority to provide opportunities for youth, both boys and girls of all backgrounds, to participate in scouting programs.

Cooking for Character is a taste fair with a live and silent auction, live band and bar. This adults-only evening hosts approximately 300 people. This year’s event was held at the River Center Branch Library in Baton Rouge.

“The scouting program helps build character in a positive environment and teaches young people to face challenges, manage risks and overcome barriers so they can grow up strong, resilient and wise,” said Michael Hooper, President and CEO of La Cap. “When all segments of our community are able to thrive through the assistance of programs like this, it makes our community a better place to live and indirectly improves the financial well-being of our members.”

The Istrouma Area Council serves 13 parishes in Louisiana and Wilkinson County, Mississippi. It provides a quality Scouting program to more than 7,600 co-ed youth.
