A woman is dead after a tree struck her truck on Saturday morning. The King County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) said around 11:22 a.m. a large tree fell on a truck, due to high wind, instantly killing a woman in her late 50s. This accident happened on Issaquah Hobart Road near South East May Valley Road.

A Tumwater woman accused of arson outside Ellensburg earlier this year was sentenced to four-and-a-half months in jail Monday after accepting a plea deal on reduced charges. Orcas Island Fire & Rescue conducted a successful Live Fire Burn Training Exercise on Saturday, Feb. 24. The Glenwood Inn property near the north shore provided an invaluable opportunity for our firefighters to gain practical experience in a controlled environment. Samish Island residents and Puget Sound Energy staff gathered Tuesday to celebrate a recently-installed solar panel and battery system at the Samish Island fire station. Samish Island resident Bob Pavia first took on the project in 2018. Spurred by the idea of finding a way to support the fire station in case of an emergency or power outage, Pavia reached out to Skagit County Fire District 5, which operates the station, and Puget Sound Energy for a solution.

A bill to reconstruct a memorial for fallen firefighters is waiting on Washington Governor Jay Inslee’s signature. Supporters of the bill, including lawmakers who are firefighters, gathered in Olympia to highlight the bill’s passage. The memorial will honor nearly 300 Washington firefighters who have died in the line of duty since 1891, according to the Fallen Firefighter Foundation.
