IDEX Fire & Safety’s Hale Products and Akron Brass Contribute to Marion Body Works and Zeus Electric Chassis’ Zero-Emission Electric Vehicle for the Fire Market

EV Truck Prototype Includes Proprietary Hale Products’ Emission-free Waterflow System and Akron Brass Valves and Monitors All-Electric Work Truck Chassis on Display at 2021 FDIC International

August 6, 2021 (Indianapolis) — IDEX Fire & Safety has partnered with Marion Body Works and Zeus Electric Chassis to create an innovative prototype vehicle for the fire market: a zero-emission electric vehicle (EV) paired with an emission-free waterflow system.

“IDEX Fire & Safety is proud to be part of this exciting solution for fire departments looking to decrease their carbon footprint,” said Brian Houk, vice president NA Commercial, Fire & Safety at IDEX Corporation. “We look forward to working with Marion Body and Zeus Electric Chassis to showcase the IDEX emission-free technology concepts behind this EV.”

The EV truck prototype will be on display at the Marion Body Works booth, #3126, at FDIC International August 5-7 at the Indiana Convention Center.

“At Zeus, we are all about the evolution of the specialty vehicle market to full electric vehicles. The new Zeus truck designed for the fire and emergency market is a great example of bringing the future home today,” said Robert Grinstead, founder and Zeus CTO. “Our technology allows us to have an industry-leading suspension travel, 16-inch ground clearance and all-wheel drive, making the Zeus Chassis an ideal option for fighting wildfires to off-road emergency use.”

The battery system powering the Zeus truck also powers the IDEX flow control system upfit. The resulting fully electric truck represents a prime solution for municipal, urban, rural, and wildland operators seeking a complete alternative fuel vehicle.

The Zeus truck is equipped with several products from the IDEX Fire & Safety portfolio of brands:

  • SAM automated flow controls
  • Hale HP200 pump and NextGen V-MUX
  • Akron Brass Electric Valve and Forestry Monitor

“As a startup, partnering with reputable OEMs is the lifeblood of Zeus,” said Wayne Kugel, Zeus CEO. “We value these relationships with key supplier partners like Marion that provide multiple components to enable the Zeus EV transformation of the vocational truck market.”

As many fire and rescue departments have been looking for opportunities to transition fleets from fuel to electric, the Zeus Power Platform™ has been a respected solution. Marion Body Works provided the cab structure for the Zeus Electric Chassis.

“Marion’s strong foundation of experience in the industry combined with the innovative intelligence of the Zeus team ensures we are moving quickly into the future,” Cal Kanowitz, F&E sales and dealer development. “We are excited to combine the collective progress of Zeus and Marion with the quality of IDEX Fire & Safety products at FDIC 2021.”

Boulder Heights (CO) Fire Station Construction Underway

The Boulder Mountain Fire Protection District has broken ground on a new fire station, reports Daily Camera.

This new building will replace the district’s previous station, which was built in 1965. The process to replace this station has been in the works since 2018, as the aging Station 2 can no longer effectively support the equipment or personnel needed for the area.

The new station, which has an anticipated budget of $3.6 million, will feature six bays. The fire station will also have a training room, a community support area, and will be able to operate as a command center during a crisis.

The Fire Protection District provides service to mountain communities all along the Flatirons and is a last line of defense if a fire gets close to the city of Boulder.
