Grand Junction (CO) Fire Department Breaks Ground on New Station 3

The Grand Junction (CO) Fire Department yesterday morning broke ground on its new Station 3, in the parking lot south of the current Fire Station 3, located at 582 25 ½ Road.

Station 3 is the department’s oldest station—it’s been around since 1975—and it’s also one of the busiest, the report says. So more room is needed at the station for future growth.

The new facility will include modern safety upgrades, including cancer-prevention features found in other stations.

The department partook in a land exchange with School District 51 to be able to build Station 3 in its new location—and Pomona Elementary School’s parking lot will be rebuilt in the station’s old location.

Car Slams into Hartford (CT) Fire Truck, Four Firefighters Hurt

Four Hartford (CT) firefighters were hurt when a car slammed into a fire engine while crews were assisting State Police on Tuesday morning, according to a report published by WFSB News 3.

One firefighter was transported by ambulance the hospital for treatment and the three others sought treatment at a local hospital on their own, according to the report that also stated none of the injuries were life-threatening.

According to the report, the car lost control and hit the engine, which was positioned to deflect the car away from personnel on the scene, according to WFSB. Police and fire officials credit the blocking placement of the engine with saving the personnel on the scene of the previous incident.

There is no word whether the driver of the car, who was uninjured, will face charges, the television station reported.

Coordinated Fire Attack

This class provides an opportunity for the UL Firefighting Safety Research Institute (FSRI), along with four of the technical panel members who served on both the suppression study and the coordinated fire attack study, to present the highlights and fireground applications of the research. This research, conducted over the past 10 years, was focused primarily on ventilation and suppression, independent from one another, at fires in single-family dwellings. With a solid understanding of horizontal, vertical, and positive-pressure ventilation alongside both interior and exterior water application, the time has come to put the pieces together: How do we define coordination on the fireground? What makes for an effective fire attack? The current UL FSRI study into coordinating ventilation and suppression on the fireground is nearing its completion. The science from the lab was taken to the streets as experiments were conducted in acquired single-family dwellings, garden-style apartments, and a commercial strip mall. This study, much like all of our other studies, is guided by a technical panel of firefighters from across the country.
