Kirtland (OH) Fire Department to Implement Clean Air Concepts’ Vehicle Exhaust Removal System

The Kirtland (OH) Fire Department recently accepted a proposal from Cincinnati-based Clear Air Concepts for a new vehicle exhaust removal system at its Station 1, reports news-herald.com.

The MagneGrip Diesel Exhaust Extraction System aims to hook right into the exhaust pipes of emergency vehicles and detach at the door’s threshold as they drive out of the station. The cost is $32,131, most of which will be covered with the remainder of a grant for a similar system installed at Station 2 in June.

The Fire Department received an $83,809 Assistance to Firefighters FEMA Grant toward the initial project. The Station 2 furnishing and installation cost came in at $58,989, leaving $29,011 of that grant money in the Capital Improvement Fund. The city is contributing about $4,190.

The installation is expected to take place in June.

Zoar (OH) Volunteer Fire Department Facing Eviction

The Zoar (OH) Volunteer Fire Department has three days to move from the fire station or face eviction proceedings in court, reports timesreproter.com.

The earliest an eviction case can be filed is Monday, following the Village Council’s April 23 vote to evict the fire department. The village and the fire department both claim ownership of the station at 190 Fifth St., and the main basis for the fire department’s claim is the written record of a Dec. 9, 1953 Village Council meeting in which members agreed to give land to the fire department for a new fire station.

Village officials, however, plan to use the fire station as a community and safety center in conjunction with the Bolivar Fire Department.

St. Clairsville (OH) Officials Debating Transferring Station Ownership to Cumberland Trail Fire District

St. Clairsville (OH) city officials are debating whether to transfer ownership of the station at 142 S. Marietta St. to the Cumberland Trail Fire District, reports timesleaderonline.com.

District ownership of the building, built in 1978, could mean access to more grant funding for upgrades, according to officials. During a recent meeting, officials said there had been discussion of transferring ownership to the district since 2015. The official added that the action was not pursued since 2017, when other matters occupied the city and district.

COVID-19 pandemic obstacles—e.g., proper decontamination and social distancing spaces—have rekindled the talks.

Officials said that if the district takes ownership the first priorities will be a roof, shower facilities, and a diesel exhaust capture system for vehicles in the bay.
