HME Ahrens-Fox To Debut New Hybrid Electric Technology (HET™) Rescue At FDIC 2019

GRAND RAPIDS/WYOMING, MI—HME Ahrens-Fox will debut a new wet rescue apparatus powered by Hybrid Electrical Technology (HET) at FDIC 2019. Assembled on the advanced AF1 custom chassis, the Ahrens-Fox HET is a Heavy Rescue Variable Response Vehicle with water and pump features, representing a forward leap in advanced energy management.

The Ahrens-Fox HET features a fully integrated hybrid design, with operation beginning from the turn of the battery switch. The vehicle’s electrical system is backboned with an 18-kW high-voltage Lithium battery storage module. Low-voltage (12V DC) operation is provided with a continuous capability of 440 A of DC power. The motive engine is equipped with an 11-kW high voltage alternator to provide replenishment power during driving, and the motive engine starting system is energized by a 12-volt capacitor. Cab climate control is achieved with a high voltage air conditioning compressor and/or an 11-kW engine coolant heater. The interior of the cab is fitted with conventional heat and air conditioning units.

“The apparatus will arrive on scene, the motive engine shuts down, and the truck will continue to fully operate for 8-12 hours from the Lithium module”, said VP of Engineering Ken Lenz. “With the HET, HME Ahrens-Fox offers the first zero-emission fire apparatus available today.”

The Ahrens-Fox Heavy Rescue Variable Response Vehicle powered by HET will be 1 of 11 HME Ahrens-Fox apparatus showcased within three locations at FDIC, which is the industry’s leading apparatus and equipment showcase event, taking place April 8-13, 2019 at the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Acela Truck Company & General Truck Body Announce Strategic Partnership

BELGRADE, MONTANA AND HOUSTON, TEXAS - Acela Truck Company and General Truck Body recently announced a strategic partnership to distribute Acela Monterra extreme-duty truck chassis. The two industry-leading companies are partnering to offer North America’s most capable trucks, expanding Acela Truck Company’s growing distribution footprint and General Truck Body’s growing product offerings, particularly into the high-water/flood rescue, firefighting and pipeline construction markets. General Truck Body will be introducing a highly modified Acela Monterra 6x6 High Water/Flood Rescue Truck at the Fire Department Instructor’s Conference (FDIC) 2019 trade show April 8-13 in Indianapolis, Indiana, inside the Lucas Oil Stadium, Booth #9249.

“General Truck Body is excited to add the Acela Monterra line of truck chassis to our product offerings”, says Glen Maikranz, President of the Custom Division of General Truck Body. “With flooding events becoming almost commonplace, we felt that offering the Monterra 6x6 High Water Flood Rescue Vehicle as our first-line vehicle would be ideal for our emergency response customer base. With a growing number of agencies, regularly effected by flooding and growing tired of repurposing older, unreliable military trucks, we are seeing a much greater demand for modern, purpose-built flood rescue trucks. We’re thrilled to be able to debut the Monterra 6x6 High Water/Flood Rescue Truck at FDIC. It’s an important show for us to share this incredibly capable and unique vehicle with the First Responder audience.  The Acela Monterra, with its 46-inch tires, all-wheel-drive, 50-inch water fording capability and central tire inflation system has proven to be the perfect solution for flood rescue response and can easily, serve double-duty, as a wildland/brush truck outside of flood/hurricane season. We’re also excited to start launching several lines of brush trucks and pipeline service vehicles on the Monterra chassis”

“We’re thrilled to have General Truck Body representing our high-mobility Monterra flood rescue trucks and truck chassis lines,” says David Ronsen, President of Acela Truck Company.  “General Truck Body understands the needs of their customers and has a reputation as one of the highest quality truck body solution providers in the U.S.A. By working together, an increasing number of fire departments, municipalities and commercial entities will be able to significantly increase their operational capabilities and productivity with our high-mobility trucks.”
