Citizens and City Officials Debate Oak Grove Heights (AR) Fire Station

Funding for fire station has caused deep division amongst citizens and city leaders which led to Monday night’s council meeting filled with tension and personal jabs, reports KAIT 8.

The wife of one volunteer firefighter argued that 13% of the sewer funds, which some had proposed shifting to fund the new fire station, is a considerably small amount of money.

Fort Drum (NY) Welcomes New Fire Apparatus

The Fort Drum Fire Department has welcomed a new fire truck, reports WWNY-TV.

The 2021 Pierce Saber engine features a 1,500 gallon-per-minute pump and six-person cab. Six apparatus were taken out of service in 2019 because of frame rot and structural issues.

The fire truck is expected to help prevent wear to the vehicles as the fire department will no longer need to bring two fire trucks to the scene.

Last year Fort Drum Fire and Emergency Service received a refurbished fire engine and expects to receive another new engine by March 2022.

Rutland (VT) Fire Apparatus Taken Out of Service

After an inspection found the frame of a 17-year-old fire engine had delaminated, the vehicle was taken out of service, reports Rutland Herald.

The delamination was largely caused by exposure to ice-melting chemicals on the roadway. The fire department routinely washes the bottoms of the trucks and use a rust inhibitor.

The fire department has relied on mutual aid from surrounding towns to cover the truck’s absence. The mayor and fire chief have discussed options that they plan to bring to the advisory board. The issue was referred to the Public Safety Committee.
