According to a report from The Billings Gazette, a Billings (MT) Fire Department (BFD) truck rolled onto its side shortly after 8 a.m. on Highway 87 at the Lockwood interchange as it was responding to a motor vehicle accident on I-90. 

I-90 was the site of multiple crashes Friday morning that slowed traffic.

The crashes, near mile marker 452, blocked sections of the eastbound and westbound lanes. No BFD firefighters were injured in the rollover and are expected to return to work Friday, but they were still taken to hospitals as a precaution.

According to a report from WGXA, the Houston County (GA) Fire Department (HCFD) is slowly moving from being an all-volunteer department to one that is becoming increasingly reliant on 24-hour paid response.

HCFD Chief Christopher Stoner said that the department must have the facilities to support firefighters who are staying overnight.

The fire department will construct those facilities. In 2016, they opened their first 24-hour station on Highway 247 Spur. The new station(s) will be more like replacements of the original ones.

The updated facility will be on Old SR-96, around the corner from where it is now and in a more open area. The property will be larger, allowing for what Stoner calls a “suitable size building and pad” for fire vehicles.

The original stations were designed to be just an office and a training room with a vehicle garage attached. Since then, the HCFD has opened one other 24-hour model on Lake Joy Road. The department is currently working on a third replacement, as Fire Station #2 on Church Road receives an upgrade.

Stoner also said that, once the station is complete, there will still be volunteers to supplement paid staff to make sure at least one member will be at the facility 24 hours a day.

According to a report from WATE, the Knoxville (TN) Fire Department (KFD) debuted its latest heavy rescue truck to the media on Thursday.

Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon was present at the unveiling and spoke with excitement and gratitude toward the KFD as well as its firefighters.

The new rescue, which cost $929,679, will replace a smaller 20-year-old truck that has nearly 200,000 miles of use. It will be used at large fires as the KFD’s search and rescue crew. It also responds to motor vehicle accidents with pinned victims as well as water rescues and trench collapses.

The heavy rescue has extra space for trench rescue equipment that would normally be moved by a trailer. The rescue is not expected to cut response times, but it will begin rescues at a quicker pace with its capacity to store this equipment.
