Biloxi (MS) Fire Boat Proves Worth

The fire boat works on many different projects, including putting out boat fires. The boat even did some special operations work during President Donald Trump’s visit to Biloxi last November.

"During a boat fire that we had about three weeks ago, it was able to supply enough water to actually put the boat out,” said Capt. Otto Vuyovich. “During the presidential visitation, we were able to turn the heat on and stay out of the weather. We were basically the last resort if an emergency came up.”

When emergencies do come up, the Serena G. has a climate-controlled cabin and two state-of-the-art water nozzles.

Skowhegan (ME) Fire Department Receives Grant for Fire Equipment

Firefighter Matthew Quinn, who spearheaded the funding effort, said Brookfield Renewable Energy has offered a grant of $7,808 for five units to go into the department’s Engine 10.

“They go in the cab of the fire engine and you can talk to dispatch over the radio, and at the same time you can have an intercom back and forth where you can talk two-way, like we’re having a conversation right now,” Quinn said. “You can push a button and you don’t need your hands, and it’s so loud in those cab that you can’t hear each other. Then you add the siren and the sound of the motor; it gets very loud in there.”

Louisville (MS) Fire Department Welcomes Fire Apparatus

Priced around 292,000 dollars, this truck holds more of what is needed in the line of duty.

Chief Haynes said the station was getting checked for a rating and actually went down a point due to the 20-year-old fire truck and decided to replace it.

One of the elements they look forward to using is the foam system which helps contain a fire quicker.

“Little bit more storage compartments than the old engine and the old engine too. This whole about 300 gallons more than one. The other one was around 700 and this one a thousand gallons,” said Fire Chief Johnnie Haynes.

Buckhannon, Beverly Loan Fire Apparatus to Elkins (WV) Fire Department

Then earlier this week, another truck broke down, and the Beverly Fire Department sent one of its vehicles to replace it.

Elkins Fire Chief Tom Meader said he's thankful for the support of the nearby departments.

"The fire service, wherever you go is a brotherhood.  You take the politics out of it, and I'm telling you, they step up.  But I really appreciate the city of Buckhannon and the city of Buckhannon Fire Department for loaning us this engine.  It's helping us a lot," Meader said.
