A Tacoma Fire Department is becoming the first in the state to launch the “Safe Stations” program to deal with the opioid crisis around the clock, reports KOMO News.

 

Fire Chief Tory Green says the fire station is a “stigma free” setting where people can come if they are overwhelmed by other settings such as hospitals and treatment centers.

Tacoma deputy Mayor Conor McCarthy says the city becomes one of 39 in the country to address the opioid crisis in this fashion.

The community is invited to witness this ceremonial placement into service and the christening of the new engine.

The Liberty Township fire department took delivery on a new Sutphen fire engine that came in under budget at approximately $617,000, reports The Delaware Gazette.

The truck is more equipped and job-specific than the 10-year-old engine it’s replacing.

New power tools were also purchased with a $42,000 grant from the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation. 

 

Over 70 years after it first hit the streets, Westville's first custom-made fire truck has returned home, reports Halifax Today.

The Westville Fire Chief got an email notifying him of the ad, which said the truck was for sale out of Ontario.

Eventually, the post made its way to social media, where local restaurateur Rhonda Cougias spotted the 1948 GMC LaFrance Pumper. She and her husband felt that buying the truck would be a great opportunity to give back to the local fire department.
