WATCH | Melbourne (FL) FD’s New Pumper at Station 71

Check out Melbourne Fire Department’s newest addition to the fleet. Division Chief Clark Simmons gives a tour of the new pumper at Station 71.

The Melbourne Fire Department recently placed a new 2024 Sutphen custom pumper into service (1,500 gallon-per-minute pump, 750-gallon water tank), the department said. It can carry all the equipment and personnel needed to provide help in a wide variety of emergency situations.

In addition to investments in its fleet, the Melbourne Fire Department is also preparing for future growth. The department is replacing two existing fire stations and building a new station near the Melbourne Orlando International Airport. The new stations will replace aging infrastructure and will position the fire department to maintain its response times as the city continues to grow.

In 2024, Melbourne firefighters responded to an average of 50 calls a day for help.

Columbus Grove (OH) FD Celebrates New Fire Station 20

The Columbus Grove Fire Department opened its new Fire Station 20 to the public Sunday, March 30, hometownstations.com reported. The open house allowed those who came to tour the facility.

The idea for a new station was considered several years ago, but the cost to build it was estimated at more than $3 million, the report said. Former firefighter and lifelong resident Larry Clymer approached the department with an offer to build the station himself, allowing the department to purchase it from him, according to the report.

The previous station was lacking adequate space. The firefighters have enough space now for trucks, training, and even just putting on turnout gear.

In February, the department trained its members on “firefighter down” drill at the new station.

“We are still beyond grateful for our beautiful new facility to be able to perform these types of training,” the department said in a Facebook post. “Thank you to our amazing taxpayers who were able to make this move possible.”

Rusty Rail Donates $50K to Mifflinburg (PA) Hose Company

(TNS)

MIFFLINBURG — The Mifflinburg Hose Company accepted a $50,000 donation from Rusty Rail Brewing Company and community members at a chili cook-off Saturday.

The donation, made on behalf of Rusty Rail, its sister companies and vendors and the Mifflinburg community, put the fire company over its $2.4 million capital campaign goal, according to President Shawn Bridge.

Rusty Rail Food and Beverage Director Angela Hess explained Saturday’s chili cook-off featured 10 chefs and 12 varieties of chili. A portion of the proceeds from the event went toward the donation to the local fire company.

According to Hess, the brewing company wanted to give back to the community and knew the fire company had recently made significant investments to improve operations.

The Mifflinburg Hose Company purchased two brand new fire trucks, a 100-foot ladder truck and a fire engine. Bridge said these trucks will serve the community for decades to come.

The sizable donation to the fire company speaks to how much people in the Mifflinburg community value the organization and their services, according to Hess.

Bridge explained that most of the funds from the fire company’s $2.4 million capital campaign have come from the community.

“The community has gone above and beyond,” Bridge said. “We can’t thank them enough.”

Hose company Vice President David Sensenig added, “We couldn’t do what we do without the community.”

Saturday’s cook-off featured some chili chefs from Rusty Rail Brewing Company, Ritz-Craft Corporation, Mifflinburg Hose Company and members of the community.
