Tuck, a former defensive end in the NFL for 11 years — nine of those with the Giants — visited the department as part of a "home away from home"segment for The Players' Tribune, a digital media company that publishes content written by professional athletes.  

Tuck's visit to the Fire Department was a surprise. Department members had been told they were going to be given a football party with a surprise guest, said Christopher Ipek, deputy chief. 

Both the new ladder truck and pumper truck were built by Pierce Manufacturing in Appleton, WI. The company displayed the new ladder truck at the national Firehouse Expo held last week in Nashville.   

They’ll replace the 1993 pumper truck and the 1994 ladder truck. The current ladder truck and engine 17 will move to reserve status. South said the new engine will become the primary rescue engine for District 1 and the ladder truck will serve all the city. The council approved the purchase in October 2017. South and Fire Chief Mike Turner recommended the city going a consortium of communities and pay up-front for the two new fire trucks. That saved the city $185,000, which was used to purchase new equipment to outfit the new trucks.
