The purpose of the Fire Mechanics Section is to promote standardization of fire apparatus and equipment preventative maintenance, improve safety standards and practices, promote workshops, conferences, and seminars related to the purposes of this Section, and to promote cost savings through standardization of building and equipment purchasing and maintenance.

Ladder Truck Donated to Barnstable County Fire & Rescue Training Academy

The donation was made possible when the Town of Hanover Fire Department received a federal grant for a new aerial platform. The grant came with the stipulation that the old truck could not be resold or given to another fire department as a first-line piece of equipment. It could only be scrapped or donated to an educational institution. Rather than scrapping it, Hanover chose to donate it to the Barnstable County Fire & Rescue Training Academy. The new rig will replace the Academy’s current ladder truck, which has a cracked frame.

Truck provides team with updated capabilities

According to Assistant Fire Chief Andrew Allen, the new fire truck is fully equipped for firefighting as well as special hazard and rescue tools. Instructors came from the German company that manufactured the vehicle and trained Darby firefighters on daily operations as well as regular maintenance of the vehicle. "Due to the peculiarity of this vehicle, all the equipment is in compartments and very tightly stored up," said Karl Hubert, instructor.

Take a look at the new Apopka ambulance - The Apopka Voice

Interior storage cabinets and drawers are more crash resistant, preventing equipment from falling onto vehicle occupants. Last year, the fire department began equipping ambulances with safer Stryker stretchers that have hydraulic lift systems to reduce strain on paramedics when lifting patients. A Power Load guides those stretchers into ambulances and locks them into place, keeping the patient from moving during transport. The newest ambulance has a bolstered air conditioning system that can maintain interior temperatures 24 hours a day.

New fire station coming to Gadsden County

This new fire station would complete the fire coverage in Gadsden County, meaning there will no longer be any areas without a nearby fire station.

The groundbreaking took place Thursday afternoon on Salem Road.

Community members and firefighters have been fighting for this for about a decade now.
