The purpose of the Fire Mechanics Section is to promote standardization of fire apparatus and equipment preventative maintenance, improve safety standards and practices, promote workshops, conferences, and seminars related to the purposes of this Section, and to promote cost savings through standardization of building and equipment purchasing and maintenance.

USFA: Massachusetts On-Duty Death

The U.S. Fire Administration has announced the official on-duty death of Firefighter Thomas Albert Cannon, 63, of the Attleboro Fire Department on May 14, 2018.

On May 13, 2018, Firefighter Thomas Albert Cannon went into cardiac arrest at the beginning of his shift while performing truck and equipment checks in the firehouse. Firefighter Cannon was treated by fellow responders then rushed to the hospital where he passed away the following day.

To date, 38 firefighter fatalities have been reported to USFA in 2018. Year-to-date and annual USFA firefighter fatality reports are posted online at https://www.usfa.fema.gov/data/statistics/ff_fatality_reports.html

Fatality status is provisional and may change as USFA contacts State Fire Marshals to verify fatality incident information.

LEED Platinum fire station boosts firefighter wellness in Seattle

Bohlin Cywinski Jackson designed Seattle Fire Station 32 in the heart of the West Seattle Alaska Junction neighborhood. The fire station has several features catering to firefighter wellness, and it also houses areas to welcome in the public. See images of the LEED Platinum certified station.

New Aurora Fire Station 15 Opens

AURORA, Colo. -- As your travels find you in East Aurora, you will see it. A little house on the prairie. Actually, it's a pretty big house on the prairie. Just completed, the state-of-the-art Fire Station Number 15 replaces the old 15 that was too small, and housed in a house in Murphy Creek.

York County officials broke ground on an upcoming fire station

Sheila Noll, York County Board of Supervisors Chair, said during a groundbreaking ceremony for a new fire station that the station would help improve and modernize fire service, replacing a 60-year-old facility.
