The purpose of the Fire Mechanics Section is to promote standardization of fire apparatus and equipment preventative maintenance, improve safety standards and practices, promote workshops, conferences, and seminars related to the purposes of this Section, and to promote cost savings through standardization of building and equipment purchasing and maintenance.

New El Paso (TX) Fire Apparatus Welcomed With Wet-Down Ceremony

Saturday morning firefighters, city leaders and the community participated in the first ever El Paso Fire Department "wet-down" ceremony welcoming new trucks to the city fleet.  

The decades-old tradition involves the new truck being hosed down and then the members of the community help dry the vehicle before pushing it back into the station.

Pleasant Grove (UT) Firefighters Restoring 1933 Fire Apparatus

Fire Capt. Justin Whatcott said the fire engine is a "huge part of our history" and a part of who the station's firefighters are today.

 

Old Joe was retired after 85 years as a working fire engine. At that point, it was starting to fall apart. Now, "Old Joe" is in pieces.

For Larsen, restoring Old Joe is something he's wanted to do since he first began working at the station.

North Zulch (TX) VFD Excited for New Fire Apparatus

"With this being just right at a thousand gallons, we're able to basically able to get to wherever we need to go and have water to fight until assistance comes from other departments," Clay said. This new engine is capable of bringing the department's water capacity to 5000 gallons. They will also have enough space to transport firefighters in one vehicle to fight fires.  

This engine will join the department's 3000 gallon tanker, 750 gallon pumper, and two grass trucks. Clay said the engine does have an interesting past.
