St. Augusta Pursues New Fire Truck Despite Grant Rejection

The aging pumper truck is more than 30-years-old and came from the old St. Cloud Township Volunteer Fire Department.

The new truck can cost up to $500,000 which is a hefty price tag for a city St. Augusta's size. So, Kroll has been out gathering donations and has raised between $200,000-$250,000. The remaining balance will be paid for either through a USDA grant or a low-interest loan from Stearns Electric's Revolving Loan Fund.

New fire truck arrives in Clear Lake - Clear Lake Mirror Reporter

Clear Lake Fire Chief Doug Meyers says over the next few weeks the truck will be equipped with necessary tools and firefighters will be trained to operate the vehicle and become acquainted with its many features.

Among the many features of “Engine 2” are the ability to take the large rig into areas requiring all-wheel drive and enhanced controls and gauges for pumping water.

Work On Fire Station Delayed Due To Money

Though designs for both a temporary station at the Teton County Fairgrounds and Station No. 1 are complete, initial bids for the temporary station were more than double previous estimates, throwing a half-million-dollar monkey wrench in the process.

“We did not envision the temporary fire station would need to be built to fire station specifications because it was a temporary building,” Chief Brady Hansen said. “We envisioned building it more for the end user.”

Portsmouth Fire Department to purchase hundreds of turnout suits

 Forty more will be purchased with the help of a grant. 

The turnout gear will help firefighters improve self-decontamination after being exposed to carcinogens in the line of duty.
