City of Red Deer Unveils Fire Station #3 in Lancaster

Red Deer's newest fire hall is officially up and running. Firefighters, City officials and residents celebrated the opening of the new Fire Station #3 in Lancaster on Wednesday. It replaces the existing Fire Station #3 located on 32 Street, which will now serve as Red Deer Emergency Services headquarters and the regional 9-1-1 call centre.

The new $7.5 million fire hall next to the Collicutt Centre features the standards like office space and dorm space for the Platoon Chief, as well as nine separate dorm rooms for crew members and a staff-designed kitchen and living area.

The bay can accommodate six emergency vehicles including two ambulances and four large vehicles. The turnout gear room also features an exhaust system that removes contaminated air under the lockers, ensuring dry and decontaminated gear after any emergency response.

Lee County EMS Crew Getting New North Fort Myers (FL) Substation

Lee County's Emergency Medical Services will soon have its own substation in North Fort Myers. The North Fort Myers Fire District station off Trail Dairy Circle currently shares its space with an EMS crew. Both chiefs for the departments said it was time for a change because of overcrowding.
"It's a full EMS station," said Lee County's EMS Chief Benjamin Abes about the future building. "So, they'll have their living corridors, they'll have bunk rooms, they'll have a kitchen, they'll have everything they need for a 12 or 24-hour shift."

Chief Abes said his crew's efficiencies are crucial in their line of work.

Renovated Ridgeland (SC) Weight Room Aims for Fitness

During the past few weeks, the building adjacent to the Ridgeland Fire Station on Railroad Avenue has been under renovation. The final product: a weight and exercise room available to all town of Ridgeland employees.
The $7,000 renovation was funded through the fire department’s budget, but $17,000 in equipment was funded through the state’s 1 percent inspection fund the fire department receives each year, Ridgeland Fire Chief Bradley Bonds said.

Typically, the total sum of the 1 percent fund is around $20,000. Bonds said frequently those funds are put towards a different firefighter’s retirement each year, but this year all agreed establishing a designated fitness center was imperative.
