Strange Items Found at Beachwood (OH) Fire Station Construction Site Will Cost

Construction crews found some strange objects under ground at the site of the new Beachwood fire station. Removing those items and filling in the ground with suitable soil will cost the city an extra $345,000, added to the $9.7-million fire station price tag.
The cost of the city's $9.7-million fire station number two rose last week after construction crews unearthed a variety of items. Those items included old car parts, three headstones, full trees, electrical conduit, 20 feet of water line dating from the 1920s, pots that once held plants, a tractor and other assorted debris.

The findings at the city-owned property at the northeast corner of Richmond Road and Park East Drive created the need to remove the soil and bring in new soil at a spot on the construction site that will eventually become the back office/living quarters half of the new fire station building.

Suspects in Georgia Fire Station Vehicle Break-Ins Arrested

Two suspects in a series of vehicle break-ins at fire stations in 17 counties around the metro Atlanta area, including Henry and Clayton, are now behind bars.
Elisha Ross, 25, and Ayana Forest, 22, both from Lawrenceville, are allegedly responsible for breaking into more than 161 vehicles at more than 44 locations, stealing at least 40 firearms. According to media reports, they were arrested on July 27 by the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office fugitive unit, along with the U.S. Marshals Service, following the execution of search warrants at two locations in Gwinnett County.

Cobb detectives began an investigation in February after three Cobb County fire stations, four Smyrna fire stations and the Glock manufacturing plant had overnight vehicle break-ins. The Federal Bureau of Investigation assisted in helping to identify Ross and Forest as suspects.

Mississippi Industries for the Blind Fire Shovel and McLeod Rake Tools Are Built to Last

Mississippi Industries for the Blind (MIB) now offers American-made, professional-grade fire shovels and McLeod rake tools to the public.  For years, the forestry fire hand tools were manufactured by MIB and only available to forestry professionals and firefighters via a contract between MIB and the U.S. Forestry Service.

The McLeod Tool and Fire Shovel have a wide variety of uses such as for constructing fire lines or other forms of wildfire suppression, or for shaping a trail’s back slope or erosion control.  These tools are designed to be reliable, efficient, and able to withstand wear.

MIB manufactures the forestry fire hand tools in its facility in Mississippi under an ISO 9000 certified quality system. Its employees oversee the robotic welding required to manufacture the McLeod rake tool, which is made of hardened, high-grade steel.  The fire shovel has a hardened, steel forged head and all assembly, drilling and riveting is also completed in house.

MIB is a non-funded agency of the state of Mississippi with a mission to train and employ those who are blind or visually impaired to promote independence and self-reliance in all aspects of their lives.

There are many misconceptions about the capabilities of the blind and visually impaired. As a result, the unemployment rate for this population is very high.

Mississippi Industries for the Blind (MIB) is a leading employer of the blind and at least 75 percent of its employees are blind and/or visually impaired.

The company has manufactured products for the U.S. Forestry Service (USFS), Department of Agriculture (USDA), Department of Defense (DOD), General Services Administration (GSA) and others.
