Cleveland (OH) Fire Truck Hit by an Explosion

CLEVELAND - An alert Cleveland EMS crew discovered three garbage trucks on fire just after 2:30 a.m. Thursday. The fire was burning at Republic Services on Jones Road just north of the intersection of Broadway and Harvard Avenues when the EMS crew saw flame and smoke from Broadway Avenue.

One of the explosions happened as the first Cleveland Fire Engine company was passing the scene to get into position to fight the fire. The explosion appeared to send fire and debris into the side of the truck. The four firefighters inside jumped out and went to work as if nothing even happened.

Interim Jackson Hole (WY) Fire Station Presents Hard Choices

Now that Jackson Hole Fire/EMS has the budget to renovate its headquarters in downtown Jackson, fire officials have to figure out where they’re going to work during the 18-month construction window.

Battalion Chief Matt Redwine presented four temporary station options to town and county officials this week, hoping for a vote. But elected officials continued the discussion, saying they want more time to discuss it.
"I recognize this is very complicated," Redwine told the Teton County Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday morning.
Of the four temporary station options, fire officials recommended permanent upgrades to the Teton County Fairgrounds livestock pavilion. That would allow the building to be used as an exhibit hall once firefighters are done with it, they said.
"We simply need a secure building that's safe for our trucks and our people," Redwine told the Jackson Town Council on Monday night.

San Juan County (NM) Opens New $1.1 Million Fire Station

Last year, San Juan County volunteer firefighters in the Cedar Point area near Aztec responded to about 412 calls. Now a new Cedar Point fire station will help firefighters better balance the load.
Now a new Cedar Point fire station will help firefighters better balance the load. The fire station will also provide assistance to the Blanco and Navajo Dam areas, where the county was forced to merge stations last year because of a lack of volunteer firefighters.

The new station became operational earlier this month, and the firefighters based there had already responded to eight calls before Tuesday's ceremony, according to San Juan County Fire Chief Craig Daugherty.

The station cost about $1.1 million and was paid for from a $7.1 million bond the County Commission approved in 2015 for new stations, replacing old engines and recruiting more firefighters. The bond was also used to renovate the Valley Fire Department Station 1 in Kirtland.
