Seward County Fire Department (KS) Replaces Charred Fire Apparatus

Grass fires earlier this year spelled the end for a few area homes as well as one unit being used to fight the fires. The truck, one of the Seward County Fire Department’s (SCFD) older models, stalled in the middle of being engaged with crew in a fire attack.

With that news, county fire chief Andrew Barkley quickly worked to get a new unit in place for fighting fires locally.

Thursday afternoon, county firefighters provided a demonstration of the new truck, a 2016 Rosenbauer 1250 GPM RXT Maverick, with a Freightliner M2 106 4X4 two-door chassis and a Cummins diesel 300 horsepower engine.

Study Finds People Hesitant to Ride in Self-Driving Ambulance

Would you want a ride to the hospital in a self-driving ambulance? If you caught yourself hesitating, you're not alone. "We found that about ... half of 1,000 US adults are significantly less willing to ride in the driverless ambulance, even when they would receive care from two paramedics instead of one."

"And quite a few of them are very negative about that and would absolutely refuse."

Bid for New Nantucket (MA) Fire Station Comes in Over Budget

The decade-plus-long push to build a new fire station on Fairgrounds Road has been dealt another setback, after just one bid was submitted this week for the construction of a modular building that came in over budget and would not have passed muster with the state attorney generals office, town officials said.
Voters in 2015 and 2016 at both Town Meeting and the ballot box approved the construction of a $17 million fire station at 4 Fairgrounds Road, but the project came in $142,000 over budget, and the Finance Committee last year rejected a Board of Selectmen request to transfer from the general fund enough money to make up the shortfall.
