Hoover noted the initial crash happened just before 3 a.m. just North of Red Bluff in Tehama County, on Jellys Ferry Road at the Sacramento River crossing.

"They veered off the roadway and went airborne over the bridge and struck one of the support beams," he said.

The 18-year-old driver was killed.

"The vehicle rolled, one party was ejected and was killed on impact," Hoover said.

The passenger, who law enforcement have identified has 19-year-old Charles Sorell was flown to Mercy Medical Center in Redding with major injuries.

Hoover added both teens were not wearing their seat belts.

Jake Bushey, an officer with CHP, was already on the scene of the initial crash. He watched has an ambulance and the first CAL FIRE engine came across the bridge.

He soon realized the portion of the damaged bridge was not going to hold. However, he could not stop the second CAL FIRE engine in time.

Fire Apparatus Catches Fire at Victor (NY) Fire Hall

An electrical issue is believed to be the cause of a fire truck fire at the Victor Fire Department. Chief Sean McAdoo says around 12:13 a.m. Monday, a couple of firefighters that were working after hours noticed smoke coming from the garage of the fire house.
He says it was discovered that the pumper truck was on fire.

The fire was limited to one truck, mostly in the engine. Fire investigators believe an apparent electrical malfunction was to blame for the fire.

There was a lot of smoke in the garage and the fire took about 30 minutes to control.

Farmington Service, LLC helped to pull the truck out of the fire hall, preventing further damage. No damage was caused to the fire house or any other trucks.

Chief McAdoo says 27 volunteers from the department responded. Some had to be directed away from the scene to keep calm.
