Tucson (AZ) Fire Department Holds Grand Opening for Fire Station 8

The city of Tucson and the Tucson Fire Department Wednesday celebrated the grand opening of Fire Station 8 at its new location on Tucson’s westside, KVOA.com reported.

Fire Station 8 is one of the busiest stations in the city and the country, the fire department says.

Fire Station 8 is the second of five new stations built with voter-approved Tucson Delivers sales tax fund, the report said.

The new fire station is located at 1025 West Prince Road.

St. Paul (NE) Increases Sales Tax for New Fire Station

It’s good news for the St. Paul Volunteer Fire Department as they passed a major hurdle in getting a new fire station, KSNBLocal4.com reported.

St. Paul voters approved a 1/2 cent sales tax increase with nearly 800 votes cast on this ballot issue, the report said.

A fire official said the current building was built in the 1960s and at the time fit the needs of the department, but that has since changed. Right now, it only has a three-bay garage holding 10 vehicles. This poses challenges to access proper equipment when they are called out, the report said.

Fire trucks and equipment are larger today and they just don’t have the space for them in the current facility, the fire official said.

The proposed project costs $1.95 million, according to the report.
