Springfield (MO) Needs An Extra $1M to Reconstruct Fire Station 7

The Springfield Fire Department is asking the city for money to build another new fire station, KY3.com reported. There was already a plan to pay for it, but now, a fire official says it’s not enough because of inflation.

Voters approved a bond project five years ago to buy new fire trucks, build new fire stations, and hire new firefighters, the report said. The city built Fire Station 13 for $3.65 million in 2021.

The city completed the Fire Station 4 rebuild at $3 million a few weeks ago, according to the report. And Fire Station 14, which has not been built, is estimated to cost $3.9 million. The cost for Fire Station 7 came back at $2.4 million. Because of rising construction costs, the fire department is asking the city for another million dollars. The fire official says a firm came up with that higher number, according to the report.

The new estimate is $4.2 million, the report said. In November, members of the Springfield City Council will vote yes or no to moving funds left over from the level property tax.

Cleveland (TX) Fire Department Adds New Ladder Truck to Fleet

For the first time since 1979, the city of Cleveland (TX) bought a new ladder truck, making it the second ladder truck for the fire department, BlueBonnetNews.com reported.

The new $1.3 million ladder truck, purchased through bond money, was on display before the start of Tuesday night’s Cleveland City Council meeting, the report said.

Built by Pierce Manufacturing, the apparatus is capable of pumping 2,000 gallons of water per minute and holds up to 500 gallons of water, according to the report. The truck is designed to hook up to the city’s fire plugs and not rely on the internal water tank. The truck also can be used as a means for firefighters to descend to and lift victims from crashes off bridges.

Gary (IN) Fire Revives Heavy Rescue Team with New Engine

The Gary Fire Department celebrated the heavy emergency response team’s first day back online with an open house Monday, NWITimes.com reported.

After trading in an old vehicle, the department was able to purchase the Squad 4 engine for $640,000 in February, the report said. The vehicle will be staffed with shifts of three, though a fire official said that eventually the department hopes to expand the squad.

Over the winter, the department worked with the Gary Community Development Department to buy a new heavy emergency apparatus that can also act as a fire engine. On Monday, the heavy rescue team was officially revived under the name Squad 4.
