Prichard FD Receives Fire Truck from Fund Honoring Firefighter Killed in 9/11

Prichard Fire Department announced a new addition to their fire department this week. The Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund donated a the vehicle after Prichard Fire Chief Fred Chambers applied to make Prichard the truck's new home. Terry Farrell, a member of the New York City Fire Department, was among the 343 emergency personnel that were killed in the terror attacks on September 11, 2001.

The 750-gallon fire engine arrived on Wednesday and is housed at the 4438 Highpoint Boulevard fire station.

"Adding this truck will significantly improve our reliability and will enhance our capability to fight fires," Chambers says.

Officials at the City of Prichard say yet another fire truck is expected in the coming months, which will bring the total fire trucks in Prichard to six when summer rolls around.

Prichard began the year with only three trucks.

Firefighters Injured at Townhouse Fire in Germantown (MD)

Several Montgomery County firefighters were injured overnight at the scene of a townhouse fire and building collapse in Germantown. It happened shortly after 1 a.m. at 19350 Churubusco Lane in Germantown.

Montgomery County fire and rescue spokesperson Pete Piringer said 120 firefighters responded to the three-alarm fire, which originated in the middle townhouse.

According to Fire Chief Scott Goldstein, the front wall of the second floor collapsed during the heavy fire, injuring eight firefighters.

One of the firefighters has serious injuries, according to Piringer.

Most of the other firefighters have been treated and released from a local hospital. None of the injuries are life threatening, Piringer said.

Firefighter Responding to York Fire Suffers Medical Emergency, Dies

According to the Hanover/Penn Township fire chief, a firefighter responding to a house fire on Pumping Station Road suffered a medical emergency and later died.

The chief says the firefighter was driving a support vehicle on Baltimore Pike when the medical emergency occurred and the firefighter ended up in a field.

The firefighter was a member of Eagle Fire Company of Hanover Fire Department.

An investigation is underway by West Manheim Township police.
