At approximately 9 a.m. on Monday, Stevens County Fire District #2 reported to the Stevens County 911 Center that a fire truck was missing from the station at the intersection of State Route 25 and Enterprise Road.
“I was on my way to meeting and saw the rollup door was open as I drove by,” stated Rick Anderson – Fire Chief. Upon closer inspection, Brush 272, a white 2008 F550 4×4 Type 6 fire truck was missing from the station. In addition, a second fire truck was extensively damaged due to the batteries being cut out of their holder and significant amount of equipment was stolen for it.
“At this point, our volunteer fire district is out of business for the south end of the fire district with both trucks being unavailable for calls. It will take significant time and funding to both fix the damaged fire truck, its missing equipment, and figure out how we replace an almost $100,000 fire truck. The fire station is located just north of the Two Rivers Resort and old Fort Spokane on SR25.”
Stevens County Fire District #2 serves the communities of Hunters, Cedonia, Fruitland and the west side of the Spokane Indian Reservation. It is an all-volunteer organization operating on a very limited budget. The Fire District is located between Davenport WA and Kettle Falls WA.
