Burnsville (MN) to Host Grand Opening of Station 1

The city of Burnsville is hosting the grand opening for its Fire Station 1 on May 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Attendees will get to tour the new facility, which is located at 14275 Newton Ave.

“We invite you to explore—take a tour of training spaces, apparatus bays with designated contamination zones and more, meet our Fire Department, check out the engines and celebrate with us!” the city writes.

“Plus, check out Fire Station Plaza! A space designed from inspiration from the community to connect Burnsville and the firefighters and first responders that serve you. There are a variety of interactive elements to explore like the hydrant hose and water mister, ladder of trust, a fire triangle, a search-and-find mural, and a bench commemorating the history of Burnsville Fire.”

The facility officially opened in January.

Watch: Push-In Ceremony for Ames (IA) Fire Department’s $1.16M Tower 1

FA reported last week that the Ames Fire Department was planning a push-in ceremony for its new $1.16 million Tower 1, the department’s first tower.

Earlier: Ames (IA) Fire Department’s Tower 1 Push-In Ceremony Set for April 18

Well, the department held it on Monday, and you can see video below:

The apparatus features a basket at the end of the aerial device. The basket can hold several firefighters and provides access to high-rise structures for rescues while also allowing for elevated water streams. The vehicle was custom-made for Ames Fire by Pierce Manufacturing in Appleton (WI) and has been named Tower 1. Tower 1 was a scheduled vehicle replacement that expands firefighting capabilities to the department.

“We continually look for ways to improve our ability to respond quickly to any public safety incident with the most effective equipment,” said Fire Chief Rich Higgins. “We are excited about the additional resources Tower One provides to Ames citizens.”

Ceremony Held for Kootenai County (ID) Fire & Rescue’s $15M Station 4

Kootenai County Fire & Rescue recently held a ground-breaking ceremony for its $15 million Station 4. Officials hope to have the 10,500-square-foot facility up and running in about 12 months.

The new digs, which will replace a 47-year-old station, will have three bay stations, a sleeping room for eight firefighters, training facilities, backup generators, and decon zones.

Once complete, its predecessor will be sold, reports krem.com. The new station is expected to cut four to six minutes off department response time.

The project is being funded by a general obligation bond that received 78% voter approval last May, the report says. The bond also reserves funds for the relocation of Station 3.

The Kootenai County Fair Board is leasing the property to the department for 50 years for $368,000—an amount officials say it would have received in parking revenue during that span.
