Lynden Fire Department
It is with deep regret that we announce the line of duty death of Fire Chief Robert Spinner of the Lynden Fire Department. Chief Spinner died after noon on Friday July 14, 2017 from an apparent heart attack. This is the first line of duty death in the 107 year history of the Lynden Fire Department.
Chief Spinner was a 25 year veteran of the fire service coming to Lynden Fire Department as their Assistant Fire Chief in October of 2010 and served in that role until he was promoted to Fire Chief in April of this year. Chief Spinner's tenure in the fire service included time spent working for Puget Sound Federal F.D., Tonopah Valley F.D., Rock Hill F.D., Central Whidbey Fire & Rescue, and Rural/Metro Fire in Scottsdale Arizona.
A memorial service for Chief Spinner will occur on Saturday July 22nd at 1 p.m. at the Northwest Washington Fairgrounds Expo Center in Lynden (1775 Front St., Lynden WA 98264). The memorial service will be open to the public. Additional information on a fire service processional to the memorial will be forthcoming.
Chief Spinner is survived by his wife Tammy, son Austin, daughter Emma, brother Russell and his mother Shirley.
