Federal disaster declared for 16 Washington counties following winter weather

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has issued a disaster declaration for 16 counties in Washington state, following weeks of extreme winter weather in January. The disaster declaration makes federal aid available for local governments and nonprofit agencies, not individuals. It covers Clallam, Clark, Cowlitz, Ferry, Grays Harbor, Island, Jefferson, King, Klickitat, Lewis, Mason, Okanogan, Pacific, Skagit, Skamania and Wahkiakum counties.

VIDEO: Large fire in California burns vacant commercial building near transit station, officials say

Crews were battling a large fire that broke out in Concord Monday night. The fire was in the area of Sunset Street and East Street. That is right across the street from the BART station and in a stretch of commercial buildings. The Contra Costa County Fire Department says that the fire has been knocked down.

Firefighter poses for photo in front of every fire department in Minnesota – all 775

PHOTOS: Firefighters are used to getting to their destinations in a hurry. Hubie Widmer took 10 years to complete his quest. “I said, ‘You know, I want to get my picture taken in front of every fire department in the state,’” Hubie said. In March, the Watertown firefighter completed his task. Over a decade, Hubie visited 775 fire departments – as best as he can tell relying on state records – every fire department in Minnesota.

Fire department in Wisconsin rolls out new mental health resource program for firefighters

Monday, The Milwaukee Fire Department announced they are partnering with Ignite the Spirit to provide essential mental health resources for firefighters through fully funded therapy sessions facilitated by licensed mental health professionals. The program is launching under the All-Hands Initiative, and Fire Lieutenant Joseph Flick founded Ignite the Spirit in 2018.

Follow Up: Lineage warehouse fire in Benton County still smoldering, investigation into cause underway

The Lineage Logistics warehouse fire continues to smolder after burning on April 21. The fire and subsequent smoky conditions prompted air quality concerns over the past week and Benton County Fire District #1 has provided some updates on the state of the fire and current air quality conditions. While the fire is still smoldering, it will eventually burn itself out and air quality will improve, according to BCFD1.
