• FORT GARRY FIRE TRUCKS celebrated the grand opening of its new facility by welcoming more than 450 fire chiefs, firefighters, guests, and suppliers to the celebration. Chiefs got to mingle with suppliers at a mini trade show as well as tour the facility. A roast beef dinner was served and a casino night followed. The Dalum Fire Department, Drumheller, Alberta, won the $25,000 credit toward the purchase of a new fire apparatus within the next two years and a trip for two to Florida. The 50,000-square-foot facility has been up and running since the end of January 2013. The new space has allowed the company to specialize in building fire apparatus for all kinds of extreme climates and providing rubber products to its industrial customers.

• EAGLE COMPRESSORS, INC. appointed former Finance Manager Becky Dreier as the new vice president of finance. The position requires Dreier to manage all aspects of accounting and finance work; coordinate external auditor statement reviews; and oversee all administrative departments, material handling, and warehouse operations. Dreier has more than 30 years of experience in accounting and finance at manufacturing companies, half of which she spent in key management positions.

• E-ONE DEALERS and sales representatives were recognized for their outstanding performance over the past year, with individual sales representatives across five different regions of the United States receiving the Regional Sales Excellence Award. Dealerships taking top honors received the Dealership Sales Excellence Award: Fire Service, Inc., Greenwood Emergency Vehicles, Hall-Mark Fire Apparatus, Inc., Sunbelt Fire, and Techno Feu, Inc.; Dealer Achievement Award: Fire Service, Inc.; Dealer Parts Sales Award: Hall-Mark Fire Apparatus, Inc.; and Customer Service Award: Fireline, Inc., Chief Fire & Safety Company, Inc., Greenwood Emergency Vehicles, and Sunbelt Fire.

Sales representatives honored received the Regional Sales Excellence Award for the following regions: Mid Atlantic Region, Randy Powell of Advantech Service & Parts, North Central Region, Tom Pour of Banner Fire Equipment, Inc.; South Central Region, Curtis Gho of Sunbelt Fire; Northeast Region, Bertrand Bouchard of Techno Feu, Inc.; and Southeast Region, Nate Gilman of Hall-Mark Fire Apparatus, Inc. The Sales Achievement Award for the Stainless Steel Product went to John Buckley of Greenwood Emergency Vehicles.

• FDM SOFTWARE and OPEN INC. have formed a partnership and will collectively comarket and support each other's offerings to emergency services agencies through North and South America. FDM Software provides public safety enterprise solutions and OPEN Inc. specializes in manufacturing technology products for EMS services. The companies expect the agreement to enable FDM and OPEN to leverage each other's skills to better serve their clients in North America and to expand their operations in international markets. Each company will train one another's staff to help integrate the companies.

• PIERCE MANUFACTURING INC. received an order for 10 fire apparatuses from Polk County (FL) Fire Rescue. The purchase includes five pumpers, a 100-foot Pierce Aerial Platform, and a heavy-duty rescue/hazmat vehicle, all built on the Pierce® Velocity™ chassis. The order also includes three tandem rear axle tanker-pumper vehicles. The pumpers and aerial platforms feature an optional forward roof cab design that enhances interior space for the crew and improves visibility. The pumpers also feature a 450 hp DD13 engine, Pierce Command Zone® advanced electronics, and a 1,250-gpm single-stage pump. The Pierce Velocity Aerial Platform features TAK-4® independent front suspension, a 500-hp Detroit DD13 engine, a 19-inch front bumper extension, a 300-gallon water tank, a 2,000-gpm single-stage pump, Pierce Command Zone advanced electronics, and blue LED lighting along all three sections of the aerial. The three Pierce tanker-pumper vehicles, built on Freightliner chassis, each feature a DD13 engine, a 2,500-gallon water tank, seating for three firefighters, and a 1,000-gpm PTO-driven pump. The Pierce Velocity nonwalk-in, heavy-duty rescue features a three-door cab with raised roof, seating for four firefighters, and a 21.5-foot body with roof hatches and recessed walkways. Pierce dealer, Ten-8 Fire Equipment, Inc. of Bradenton, Florida, provides local service and support.

• BURN, a new film from Producer/Directors Tom Putnam and Brenna Sanchez and Executive Producer Denis Leary that chronicles the lives of the firefighters at the Detroit (MI) Fire Department's Engine Company 50, is now available on Blu-ray™ and DVD and includes the widescreen theatrical version of the film as well as more than four hours of extras. BURN takes audiences to the front lines of Detroit, a city where some residents seem to think of arson as a sport. Detroit has more fires than any city in the United States. A population drop from 1.85 million in 1950 to near 700,000 today has left 80,000 abandoned structures as kindling. The result is a city with 30,000 fire calls a year-the highest fire load in America. On average, Detroit sees 30 structure fires daily. The film will also be available digitally through the Sundance Institute, which allows independent films to make their digital debut through a variety of platforms to rent, download, or stream via Sundance Institute's Artist Services program.

• HORTON recently delivered two custom ambulances to the city of Tamarac, located in Broward County, Florida. The two ambulances are currently being rotated between the three stations within the city of Tamarac and will also be used to service surrounding cities as part of mutual-aid agreements. The ambulances feature an International 4300 Crew Cab chassis, custom Horton Model 623 body, Horton Occupant Protection System (HOPS), MaxCool II Air Conditioner Danhard 110-V Air Conditioner, Whelen LED warning light package, Voyager 4 camera system, Zico OTS Electric O2 Bottle Lift, Firecom five-position wireless intercom, and Stryker Power Load System. The ambulances also feature NFPA-compliant seat belt sensors for safety, as well as vertical exhaust systems that keeps exhaust fumes away from firefighters on scene. The Stryker Power Load System eliminates the need to lift patients into the truck, ultimately resulting in fewer injuries.

• DUPONT PROTECTION TECHNOLOGIES is increasing its capacity to produce specialty colored DuPont™ Kevlar® yarn in response to growing demand from customers for colored yarns used in a range of thermal, cut protection, and composites for consumer and industrial applications. DuPont offers a wide selection of colored para-aramid yarns. In addition to its natural yellow color, Kevlar also is available in black, red, orange, green, and blue. Kevlar colored yarn is used in a variety of applications including cut- and heat-resistant gloves, military apparel, firefighter turnout gear, and flame-resistant industrial and racing apparel, as well as consumer applications including kayaks and MOTOROLA smartphones. The additional color capacity is being added to the DuPont plant in Richmond, Virginia, and is expected to become available in October 2013.

• TRUE NORTH, a manufacturer of fire-resistant fleece clothing, was awarded the 2013 North American APEX Award for its Briteline Fleece Jacket. Polartec® announced the 13 North American garments chosen for its annual APEX Awards. This honor goes to the finest Polartec-based garments. A panel of judges selected the winners based on the style, function, and fit of the garments as well as the most innovative and appropriate uses of Polartec fabrics in the designs. Made from Polartec's Thermal FR® Technology, the Briteline offers true flame resistance without the weight and bulk of other cold weather jackets. The jacket features two zippered hand warmer pockets and two inside cargo pockets. It has extra long sleeves with glove cuffs for a better reach and a drop-tail rear hem for increased coverage. It is ANSI 107 Class 3 level 2 compliant and also comes in hi-vis orange to comply with CSA Z96-09 Class 2.
