One of the busiest fire stations with the Milwaukee (WI) Fire Department was closed and vacated Thursday, Dec. 30, from fears the floor would collapse in the apparatus bay, according to a report published by WISN 12 ABC.

According to the television report, the station was emptied and closed after firefighters noticed damage to the floor and immediately notified chief officers.
Structural engineers were summoned and it was determined the floor was unsafe to support apparatus that can weigh up to 60,000 pounds, the television station reported.

Eight firefighters and the station’s equipment were immediately moved from the 1911 building to Station 5, about a mile west, ABC 12 reported, adding that Station 5 had previously been decommissioned and was used primarily as a health and wellness center for the fire department’s member since. No members of the department were in danger before the damage to the floor was discovered, the television station reported.

The television station reported that structural engineers will look at Station 30 as soon as possible to determine what to do with the building and any repairs that can be made. Fire officials said Station 30 is one of the busiest in Wisconsin and, perhaps the entire Midwest, the television station reported.

A fire truck responding to a structure fire rolled over in Elbert County, GA, causing minor injuries to a firefighter in the afternoon on Wednesday, Dec. 30, according to a report published by The Elberton Star.

According to the report firefighter John Luna, 75, was responding to a structure fire, traveling on Harpers Ferry Road, when the truck’s right front and rear tires ran off the road and came back on the pavement, causing the truck to slide, pushing it to the opposite side of the road causing it to overturn, the newspaper reported.

The driver of the truck, who suffered minor injuries, reported the accident himself and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

According to Elbert County Fire Department’s Facebook page posting, Firefighter Luna was checked out and released from the hospital last night and is OK. The department asks for prayers for his recover as he was “bruised and bumped up pretty good.”

“We are so very thankful that John is okay,” Elbert County Fire Department stated. “Thank you to all Elbert County Firefighters, EMS, ECSO and 911 for taking care of one our own.”
