New Williamstown (MA) Station Hits Snags

Due to inflation and a square-footage underestimate, Mitchell Associates Architects officials say the $7.2 million estimate the Williamstown (MA) fire district received in 2008 has now increased to more than $15 million, reports iberkshires.com.

The station, which the district wants to build on Main Street just east of the Aubuchon Hardware building, has hit a pair of snags. First, the cost of construction has risen by 3.1% per year on average since 2008, according to the report.

Next, the department will likely need more space than the original design called for, the report says. The first plans omitted many necessary features.

Architect officials noted there was some good news, as the larger design could still fit on the 3.7-acre parcel of land the district purchased four years ago.

Woodburn (KY) Volunteer Fire Department’s New Station Could Be Ready By End of 2023

A new station for the Woodburn (KY) Volunteer Fire Department is moving closer to fruition and could be operational by the end of next year, reports bgdailynews.com.

Fire officials recently met with county officials to discuss plans and funding for the two-bay facility, which will be located next to Jody Richards Elementary School, the report says.

A final property appraisal awaits before the Board of Education transfers the one acre of land to the fire department. After which the department will move forward with cost estimates and a bidding process, the report says.

The department is also waiting on a potential grant to build a storm shelter behind the facility.

Officials say the department will be funding most of the new station, but the county has tentatively agreed to pay $50,000 of the construction cost.
